Dr. Mary M. Harris - Psychologist, Educator, Author and business owner. One of the first five African Americans to graduate from Duke University. Dr. Mary, as she liked to be called, spent her life assisting students (especially athletes) in achieving their academic goals. As an educator, she taught at Spelman College and Georgia Tech, where she developed her Power Learning program. The program was later adopted by the Dept. of Defense, and was distributed to 1500 schools in the United States.

The book Power Learning: A Game Plan for Student Athletes and Other Active Learners was written for high school and college students, especially athletes. This self-help workbook paces the student athlete through a regimen of mental practice which parallels physical training. The audience includes students and athletes, coaches, counselors, educators, advisors and parents.

When students learn that the brain has two hemispheres ( a left and a right) that specialize in separate functions, the become aware of their own unique learning style. The left-brain dominant student is more logical and analytical, while the right-brain dominant student is more intuitive and creative.
