Meet our City Schools Lions , Jeremiah!

Jeremiah is a proud member of City School’s inaugural third-grade class, and he’s thriving! From making a canoe in social studies to having time to truly understand his schoolwork, he’s found a new sense of confidence.

Before transferring, Jeremiah often felt rushed, but now he has the time to focus and succeed without the pressure. “I’m proud that I’m not rushed,” he shares.

Another big change? The food! “The lunch is not all junk food,” Jeremiah says. “We have better food choices here.”

Jeremiah’s favorite teacher is Mr. Enlow, who he says is kind and always takes time to help him. “Mr. Enlow is a good man, and he spends time with me,” Jeremiah says with a smile.

We’re so proud of you, Jeremiah! Keep shining.

We can’t believe that we are already planning for back-to-school! As we look to school starting in August, we wanted to share this City School student’s story with you...

Before joining City School in the sixth grade, Savion Walker describes his life as “bland.” He rarely ventured outside, never rode a bike, or played with friends. “I always stayed to myself,” he recalls.

But everything changed when he began attending City School. “I started to open up a little bit. I started to find my people, the right teachers, and the right coaches. I really showed who I am.”

For six years, Savion has attended City School, where he’s been very involved in sports, athletics, and weightlifting. He also participates in City of Refuge’s after-school programming and summer camp. Academically, Savion is a standout student—he finished this past year with a 4.0 grade point average.

According to Savion, the supportive environment at City School has been crucial. “This school provides great teachers,” he said. “They pay attention to you—how you’re doing academically, emotionally. They can tell if something is wrong. They taught me a lot. They provide great help in all categories.”

City School also provides essential supplies and resources that make a big difference for students like Savion. “At the beginning of the year, when kids don’t have the money to get school supplies or new sneakers, the Back to School Bash is very helpful. They gave us sneakers, backpacks, pencils, pens—everything you need for the school year. It was more than enough.”

Savion is deeply grateful for the generosity of donors who support City School. “I want to give thanks to all the donors. You all are great people. Keep doing what you’re doing. Because of you, we have more opportunities to experience new things. I really appreciate you.”

Savion’s story is a testament to the transformative power of education and community support. We invite you to contribute to the success of students like Savion by visiting donating to back-to-school. Your donations will provide new sneakers, backpacks, and essential school supplies, ensuring that every student at City School can start the year prepared and confident.

Meet our City School Lions , Andre! “This week, Andre demonstrated what it means to transcend our full potential. Not only did he hit his first three-pointer of the season, but he proceeded to hit four more: totaling 5. This phenomenal performance included shots from three feet behind the arc and a critical three-pointer that put his team up by one point with 30 seconds left in the game as The City School Lions overtook the #1 team in their league. We are proud of the entire team for what they are accomplishing.” - Coach Jonathan Inman, City Youth

Meet our City School Lions , Emeri!

Emeri is in our inaugural fourth-grade class and is involved in extra curricular activities like our brand-new cheerleading squad and afterschool. Her favorite part about being a City School Lion is how friendly everyone is. “You make friends really easy here, even with the middle school and high school students,” said Emeri. “Everyone will be your friend.”

Emeri used to attend a public school in town with larger class sizes. At City School, she’s enjoyed improving her reading comprehension and singing in chapel with Ms. Valerie. “Everyone goes to chapel together, and we learn things about God and it’s really fun here,” said Emeri.

We are so proud of all of her growth since she started school in August, and we can’t wait to see her continue thriving in class, afterschool, and with the cheerleading squad! Georgia Statewide Afterschool Network
