The University of Georgia has officially announced that applicants for this admissions cycle will not complete supplemental essays.
What does this mean for students?
✅ Less writing
✅ Faster applications
⚠️ Even MORE emphasis on grades, rigor, activities, and the overall application presentation
This change could also mean:
• More applicants
• Increased competition
• Greater importance on building a balanced college list
Without supplements, students will need to make every section of the application count — especially the Activities Section, Honors Section, course rigor, and the main Common App essay. The “story” of the student will now need to come through in the entire application, not just additional essays. There is good and bad to this change… and yes, we need to discuss both.

Feeling stuck choosing a major? We’ve seen it before — and we’ve helped students move from undecided to confident. Here are three common student archetypes, majors that fit, and next steps you can try today. 1) The Curious Tinkerer — Majors: Engineering, Computer Science, Physics. Next steps: shadow an engineer, try a hands‑on summer program, take an intro coding or robotics course. 2) The People Person — Majors: Psychology, Communications, Education. Next steps: volunteer in schools or community programs, do a micro‑internship in counseling or PR, take an interpersonal skills course. 3) The Creative Problem‑Solver — Majors: Business, Design, Environmental Science. Next steps: join a student startup or design lab, do a short consulting project or micro‑internship, enroll in a design thinking class. Williams Educational Consultants shows students that being active in their future often discovers a clear direction — and families report less stress.
