A college fair should be more than collecting brochures and scanning QR codes. With a little preparation, students can ask meaningful questions, make valuable connections, and leave with greater clarity about what they want in a college experience.

🚨 DON’T FORGET THE SRAR!

Some colleges require students to complete a Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR) as an additional step. This means entering your high school courses and grades exactly as they appear on your transcript.

A few important reminders:

āœ… Check whether each college on your list requires an SRAR.
āœ… Enter courses and grades carefully and accurately.
āœ… Make sure the SRAR is submitted AND linked to your application when required.
āœ… Check your college portals after applying—your application may still show as incomplete until this step is finished.

This is one of those small details that can easily get overlooked during application season, so don’t assume that clicking ā€œSubmitā€ on the Common App means every requirement is complete.

Complete it. Link it. Submit it. Then check your portal! šŸ’œ

Admissions requirements vary from school to school, and students should never assume that the same strategy applies everywhere. When in doubt, follow the college’s instructions. Confused about SchooLinks? You’re not alone ! I see this every year when schools switch platforms. SchooLinks is a college-and-career planning tool that many districts use to manage transcripts, teacher and counselor recommendations, and Common App document syncing. It can make tracking school-side documents easier, but each district configures SchooLinks differently.

My quick checklist for seniors: 1) Complete your Common App and FERPA settings. 2) Ask teachers in person before sending any recommendation requests. 3) Follow your high school’s directions for requesting transcripts and recommendations. 4) Track document status in SchooLinks and also monitor each college’s applicant portal.

At Williams Educational Consultants, we help students navigate platforms, deadlines, and document workflows so families can stay organized and focused on the right submissions. Questions about how to use SchooLinks? Ask below or visit the article to learn more: https://wix.to/SoaYtxe

Do you know how the Common App separates shared information from school-specific requirements?

The Common App section (Shared Information) contains information shared with your selected colleges, including your profile, family, education, testing, activities, honors, and personal essay.

The My Colleges section (School-Specific information) contains each college’s specific questions, supplemental essays, deadlines, and recommendation requirements.

Remember: Completing the shared sections does not mean that every college application is complete.

Use a professional, student-owned email address and check it regularly. Use the same address for application platforms, testing accounts, and college portals.

TUESDAY TASK: Clean up your inbox, turn on notifications, and create folders for admissions, financial aid, scholarships, and each college. Small systems prevent missed deadlines!

⭐ COLLEGE APPLICATION REMINDER: DON’T FORGET STARS!

Some colleges require students to complete the Self-reported Transcript and Academic Record System (STARS) as part of the application process. Through STARS, students report their courses, grades, and current or planned coursework.

If a college requires STARS, your application may remain incomplete until this step has been submitted.

How do you know whether your college requires it?

āœ… Review the college’s requirements in Common App
āœ… Check the college’s admissions website
āœ… When in doubt, contact the college directly

Every college has different requirements, so carefully review your application checklist before assuming you are finished!
