This week, GEORGIA MATCH sent letters to 131,000 Georgia high school seniors (Class of 2027) attending 700+ public and private high schools for its official Match Day in Georgia! This direct admission program identifies participating public colleges and universities where high school seniors meet initial academic eligibility for admission. These institutions are holding a spot for matched students, making it easier to explore options and take the next step toward college.

The Southern Regional Education Board presented the 2026 Jack Hill Champion of Education Award to Alabama Rep. Terri Collins at this year’s SREB Legislative Advisory Council meeting.

Collins has been an SREB LAC member since 2012 and has served as both chair and co-chair. Her legislative work includes the Alabama Literacy Act, public charter school authorization and the Alabama College & Career Readiness Act.

She has also contributed to SREB’s work on teacher preparation, AI in education, and career pathways and credentials.

SREB is partnering with Bethlehem Area School District provide job-embedded coaching and professional learning focused on strengthening math instruction.

The work includes intensive coaching for teachers, leadership support for instructional improvement and professional learning for educators across four schools.

Following last week's tragic events at Westwood Hills Elementary, we are reminded of the important role trained counselors play in supporting school communities through long-term recovery.

The SREB Crisis Recovery Network is recruiting Louisiana school counselors to receive specialized training in long-term crisis response and recovery. Network counselors build response capacity within their own schools and districts while preparing to assist other communities during times of crisis.

36 counselors. 31 Oklahoma districts and communities. One shared commitment: Making sure no school has to face a crisis alone.

Last week, Oklahoma school counselors completed two days of specialized crisis response and recovery training through SREB’s Crisis Recovery Network.

They return to their schools with new skills, new connections, and the preparation to support students, staff, and school communities when the unexpected happens.

Together, they are helping build a stronger statewide network of school counselors prepared to step forward when another school community needs support.

We couldn’t be prouder of these 36 counselors for saying YES to being part of something bigger than their own schools and districts! Their willingness to learn, connect, and step forward for others is exactly what makes Oklahoma school counselors so incredible.

Here’s to stronger connections, better-prepared schools, and a growing network of counselors ready to answer the call when it matters most!

Our thoughts are with the Waynesboro community following the recent tragedy at Westwood Hills Elementary School.

Staff took part in a "Day of Support, Connection, and Care," with mental health professionals from Valley Community Services Board, Victims Crisis Assistance Response and SREB's Crisis Recovery Network offering support, and have returned to school. Support is ongoing.

According to Waynesboro Public Schools, Westwood Hills Elementary School will host a Family Open House today from 3-6 p.m. and will reopen for children and families who are ready to return on Thursday.

Districts are spending billions on AI tools for classrooms, but most are left to vet products largely on their own.

In this Stateline article, SREB's Leslie Eaves, who co-led the organization's AI commission, weighs in on how schools should approach these decisions.
