Congratulations, Ava, on your scholarship! Ava is a Calvary Christian High School senior in Clearwater, FL, and will be attending the University of Alabama Honors College in the fall. She loves leadership and counts being the Drum Major of her high school marching band as a transformative learning experience. The experience inspired Ava to write a children’s book, Magic of a Marching Band. She is also involved in the debate club and numerous honor societies and was the female lead actor in the spring musical. Ava is grateful for this award and will utilize it to further her education at Alabama. We’re so proud of you!

Help us congratulate Lisa on her recent grant win! Lisa McLeod Balazs is a middle school STEM teacher at Magic City Acceptance Academy. She has taught for over 20 years and loves engaging middle school students in projects that get them outside. Lisa holds a Master's in Secondary Education, and an undergraduate degree in Geology, and has completed advanced studies in Planetary Geophysics. What she loves most about teaching is when students have those "lightbulb moments" and see the connections between the natural world and the math they are learning.
