This Memorial Day weekend, while cleaning out my late mother’s house, I uncovered a treasure trove of my family's history: my dad’s 1963 draft and 1969 discharge papers, along with every single letter he wrote home to his parents while serving. 📝🇺🇸
Reading his words gave me an incredible, intimate peek into what daily life was like for him during those years. It’s also a beautiful reminder of my parents' love story—my mom was a civilian working on the base where they first met.
While my dad was fortunate enough to return home and build a beautiful life with my mom, holding these letters makes me think of the many young men and women from that era who never got the chance to write their final letters home.
This weekend, as we enjoy our time with loved ones, let’s take a moment to remember the true meaning of Memorial Day. My heart goes out to the families of the brave service members who made the ultimate sacrifice and never made it back. We honor them, and we remember them. 🤍

hospital visits and support through our Fairy Godparent Volunteer Program, funeral cost
coverage when the unthinkable happens. We walk with these families through all of it,
joyful times and hard times, we never let go.

Food That Rocks 2026 returns to on June 4 as Sandy Springs’ all-inclusive tasting event presented by Taste of Atlanta. From 6–10 p.m., with VIP entry at 6.
