This week, a group of Middle School students took the stage for a Spelling Bee! After 13 intense rounds of competition, we congratulate our champion, Thomas Stotts '29, and our runner-up, Tyler Tio '30. We are proud of all the participants for their hard work and bravery!

Last week, we came together to celebrate our winter athletes with a pep rally! The Upper School Student Council organized an afternoon filled with games and recognition of all our winter sports. After the rally, the annual students vs. faculty basketball game brought fierce competition, and our boys' and girls' basketball teams closed out the weekend with impressive Sweet 16 wins. Go Bears!

Students in The PEAK Leadership Institute are continuing to dive into hands-on learning experiences this semester! The PEAK Leadership Foundations class partnered with the Fine Arts department and the High Museum of Art to create guides for an upcoming exhibition, while PEAK Leadership Experiences students are tackling a community development simulation with the Urban Land Institute. In Middle School, PEAK Survey students recently toured Truist Park and designed promotions for Primary School Baseball Night!

As part of our Black History Month celebrations, we had the honor of hosting Dr. Lakeysha Hallmon, founder of The Village Market and author of “No One Is Self-Made.” Dr. Hallmon led a workshop on entrepreneurship and shared valuable insights on building community. Her mantra, “Support is a Verb,” inspired our students us to actively uplift and empower each other. Thank you, Dr. Hallmon, for sharing your wisdom and experience!

The Primary School had a blast celebrating Storytelling Week! Through puppet shows, special visitors and creative storytelling, students explored all the exciting ways to share stories in written, spoken and visual forms. Upper School photography students even helped them capture special moments with favorite toys!

That's a wrap on HIES Theatre's production of Les Misérables! 🇫🇷 After months of preparation, these students delivered four stunning, sold-out performances. Their commitment to this meaningful story was evident in every scene, and our HIES community was honored to witness the product of their hard work. Bravo to the cast and crew!

The seventh-grade boys basketball team are Buckhead Rotary League Champions! 🏀 They ended their season with an 11-0 record after their Tuesday victory over Westminster. Thanks to all the students, families, teachers and friends that showed up to support! Go Bears!

We are SO proud of these incredible athletes! Having two McDonald's All Americans in one year is a historic accomplishment. We can't wait to watch Hailee and Caleb represent HIES on one of the biggest stages in high school basketball. Go Bears!

As a part of celebrations of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Middle School and Upper School students were invited to reflect on Dr. King's vision for peace and unity through HIES's annual MLK Day Essay Contest. Two winners from each division were selected and honored during Monday's MLK Classic basketball tournament. Congratulations to Ridge Hodgson '30, Penny Kent '29, Gabby Hollier '25 and Eva Marie Wakelin '27!
