Have you ever used or heard any of these
When you use statements like these after you've been called out for:
ยฐSaying something sexist
Making a transphobic joke
Or supporting a racist practice
You are saying that you care more about looking innocent than you do about the impact of your actions on others.
You are saying that you would rather be complicit in oppression than correct your mistake.
You are saying that the people you harmed hold little to no value in your eyes.
This may not be your intention, but when you avoid accountability (or allow others to do so), oppression and harm towards people who are marginalized goes unchecked.
If you're committed to eliminating oppression, then you have to be willing to take responsibility for the ways that you and others in your community may be participating in systems of oppression.
This means recognizing, preventing, and repairing the harm caused by injustice toward others through accountability practices.
Join me in my 6 week learning experience, the #๐ผ๐๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐๐ฉ๐๐ฃ๐๐ผ๐๐ซ๐ค๐๐๐๐ฎ๐ผ๐๐๐๐๐ข๐ฎ if you're ready to step into your power and become a more accountable justice advocate!

About 3 years ago I decided to start sharing my academic work with the public via Instagram in an effort to make the science of policing and justice more accessible, clear, and practical to everyday people who truly needed the information.
I didn't know what my goals were when I decided to expand my teaching beyond the confines of college classrooms but I knew I wanted to help people recognize the POWER they held to create change.
What started as a side hobby as I worked on my Ph.D. has become a whole public learning space full of amazing humans who support my dream of sharing knowledge on MY own terms without the limits of higher education institutions that were never meant for me.
Thank you for your support and being a part of my journey!
My vision for Passion and Power grows everyday and I would love to have your support on Patreon to help make my vision a reality.
This is a way for you to show your appreciation for the free learning I offer here, support a , and gain access to additional learning experiences and resources.

Accountability practices are a way for us to combat oppression, support folx who are harmed by racial injustice, and build a safer world for marginalized people.
So why it so hard to get people to BE ACCOUNTABLE for their mistakes and participation in white supremacy?
And why is it so hard to BE ACCOUNTABLE when you make mistakes in this work?
Well I'm glad you asked because I'll be unpacking all this tomorrow!
If you ever had questions like...
But what does accountability even mean?
How do I show I'm accountable when I cause harm?
How do I engage others in accountability and make them change?
And how can I use accountability as a tool to dismantle racial inequity and other systems of oppression ?
Then you need to join me tomorrow around at 3:30 PM EST to learn about 3 ways you're practicing accountability all WRONG.
My goal is to help you become a more accountable justice advocate if you dont know where to start so don't have to be out here giving Rachel Hollis or Sharon Osboourn type apologies
Share this invitation with a friend who could benefit from this community conversation and if you can't make it live, there will be a replay on IGTV.
See you tomorrow!

The criminal legal system has taught us to see punishment and sanctions as accountablity.
A guilty verdict doesn't serve justice nor does it make someone accountable for the harm they caused.
As justice advocates, if we aren't able to define, recognize, and practice ๐ง๐๐๐ก ๐๐๐๐ค๐ช๐ฃ๐ฉ๐๐๐ก๐๐ฉ๐ฎ then we wont be able to repair and prevent the harm caused by systems of oppression.
We will only replicate it.

"๐๐ฃ๐ซ๐๐จ๐ฉ ๐๐ฃ ๐ฅ๐๐ค๐ฅ๐ก๐ ๐ฌ๐๐ค ๐๐ฃ๐ซ๐๐จ๐ฉ ๐๐ฃ ๐ฎ๐ค๐ช", they say.
Behind me are the names of over 20 amazing humans who made the commitment to learn with me in this week so they can start to use their privilege for a positive purpose while building a more equitable world.
Being a Black educator who teaches about injustice issues requires me to manage (very carefully) how and on whom I spend my energy.
I give A LOT of value for free via my Instagram so I'm grateful that these folx recognized my investment in them and made the decision to work with me so we can really do some meaningful work together.
I do not take their investment in learning with me lightly.
But if I'm honest, I'm very bad with names.
So to make our virtual classroom feel a little more connected I decided to cut out some stick figures, decorate them, and place each learner's name in the center so that I can start to remember them individually.
(You call it procrastination, I call it being multi-passionate!๐)
๐๐ฃ๐ง๐ค๐ก๐ก๐ข๐๐ฃ๐ฉ ๐๐ค๐ง ๐๐จ ๐๐๐๐ this week so if you're committed to completely transforming how you show up in your justice advocacy, then head to the link in my bio to get started with us and I'll be sure to add your name to my board too!

Which one are you committed to being?
If you said, "An actionable justice advocate " then I want you to know that you have the power to do just that.
You just have to ๐ค๐ฌ๐ฃ ๐๐ฉ.
But beware because stepping into this territory means you're going to have to:
1๏ธโฃChallenge yourself and what you've always known about the world
Step up and stop making excuses as to why you can't do more to help make justice a reality
Be OK with making mistakes, not having all the answers and not getting rewarded for simply doing the right thing
So I'll ask again, which type of advocate are you committed to becoming?
If you recognize your responsibility to dismantle systems of oppression and it's your goal to become more actionable in your pursuit of racial justice then you need to join me in
This is a 3-day mini-course where youโll learn how to use your privilege for a positive purpose, create equity in your communities of influence, and boldly take action against oppression in your daily life using your unique power.
Think of this as your launching pad to taking practical action that will disrupt the status quo and build a more equitable world.
We get started in just 2 days and I can't wait for us to start showing up for change more boldy and honestly than ever before.

Embracing justice as a lifestyle requires us to be proactive, intentional, and consistent in our efforts to create change.
This means that it's not enough if you're only taking action against injustice ๐๐๐ฉ๐๐ง it happens.
Are you finding it difficult to embody your values of justice, anti-racism, and anti-oppression consistently?
Well it may be because youโve never taken the time to develop 1. a plan for what your unique role in this movement for justice truly looks like or 2. a clear process to make it happen.
Here are a few things that you need to build a sustainable justice practice:
1๏ธโฃFocused and personalized anti-oppression goals
A manageable plan of action to achieve those goals
And intentional time to reflect on your areas of opportunity and growth in this work
Taking the time to get aligned before you start to engage in this work is honestly the first thing you should be doing (and re-doing) as a justice advocate.
๐
Because alignment allows you to direct your energy and time to what actually matters and suits your skills rather than letting social media dictate how you โshouldโ be addressing injustice.
๐
Alignment allows you to engage in this work authentically and for the long-term.
๐
Alignment encourages you to stay accountable and build upon your actions over time
With equal parts of vision boarding, goal-setting, plan of action, and reflection will help you translate your justice values into a sustainable life practice.
If you're serious about identifying what your unique role in creating justice is then you need The Power Plan!
To get access and start setting some advocacy goals for this new month,
Wishing you happy planning as we work to create our vision and plan of action for justice this and every month in 2021!

For those who recognize it's their responsibility to build communities where Black, q***r, trans, poor, and other marginalized people can feel empowered, valued and protected.
This is for my folx who may be feeling unsure about what actions to take aside from protesting, reading, and arguing with folx about social injustice but are ready to take more intentional and sustainable action for change.
Activating Advocacy will help you build the knowledge and confidence to start living your values & taking more meaningful action as a justice advocate.
Sounds good? Then I would love to invite you to join this learning space so we can get started together.

One of the reasons I was really motivated to create the #๐ผ๐๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐๐ฉ๐๐ฃ๐ ๐ผ๐๐ซ๐ค๐๐๐๐ฎ mini course was because I was tired of folx thinking that they had to read 50 books, consult with 10 different people, and have a week long meditation just to prepare themselves to take action based on what they learned.
Sometimes your hesitance to move toward in action is based on valid concerns but it's very easy for those concerns to slip into procrastination tactics.
Our criminal legal system, white supremacy, heteropatriachy and other oppressive systems feed off of our inaction.
They try to convince us that our efforts for change aren't worthy enough unless they meet some unrealistic standard.
But that's just not true.
You'r community is waiting for you to show up.
If you want to start taking more confident action against oppression or if you know that you could be doing more to empower marginalized people then I encourage you to join my 3 day mini course
Over these 3 days, we will upack privilege power ,and oppression, then we'll explore practical ways to take action to combat injustice in your community, and then Iโll help you rethink and avoid some common advoacy efforts that are doing more harm than good.

When you begin to see justice as a lifestyle that you live versus a value that you care about, some amazing things can happen.
Not just for you, but more importantly for the people around you who need your action in order to feel empowered, protected, safe, and thriving!
It's time for you to stop waiting until you have more availability in your schedule, have read more books, or have witnessed another racial injustice to start prioritizing action in your justice journey.
If you want to know how you can begin to feel more confident about combating oppression in practical ways, then join me this afternoon where I'll be breaking down exactly how the Activating Advocacy mini-course will help get you there.
I want us to end ready to disrupt the systems and ideologies that don't serve us ALL year long!
Share this invitation with someone who could benefit, bring your questions, and I'll see you this afternoon!

Fear that you're a bad person because of the fact that you're complicit in/contribute to oppression
Fear of doing the 'wrong thing' or causing harm through your advocacy efforts
Fear of being 'that person' who challenges the status quo among your family, with your friends, at your job
Doubting your ability to speak up or take action when you sense something is unfair because you feel like you don't know the best course of action
Doubting that what you do (or don't do) for justice makes much of an impact at all
Doubting that you can help create sustainable positive change by using your own skills and gifts
But despite the fear and doubt, you may have, I want you to know that you have the power to create meaningful change in your community.
You just have to make the commitmwnt to OWN it.
If you're ready to become a more actionable & consistent justice advocate, I want to invite you to ๐๐ค๐๐ฃ ๐ข๐ ๐๐ฃ ๐ผ๐๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐๐ฉ๐๐ฃ๐ ๐ผ๐๐ซ๐ค๐๐๐๐ฎ - a 3 day mini-course to help you get started (or realigned) in this work.
You'll recieve 3 days of self-paced lessons for you to complete at your convienence and then we will have a live community workshop day for us to upack the lessons as they relate to your life and connect with other like minded people who are committed to justice as well.
๐๐ฃ๐ง๐ค๐ก๐ก ๐ฉ๐ค๐๐๐ฎ ๐ซ๐๐ ๐ฉ๐๐ ๐ก๐๐ฃ๐ ๐๐ฃ ๐ข๐ฎ ๐๐๐ค and if you have questions, feel free to shoot me a DM!
