I was a bit hestitant to jump on the Chat Gpt wagon, but now that I have jumped I have found it incredibly helpful...not just for creating a fun cartoon but for creating study materials for my students.

This text is from a text exchange with one of my middle school students. She has been diagnosed with dyslexia and like many of my students has a history of struggling with test anxiety. I have worked closely with her math teacher this year in helping my dear student prepare for assessments. Over the past couple of months, she has demonstrated that she understood the material but time after time she would receive failing test grades. It didn't help that most of the tests were only five questions. The teacher also shared her frustration with the county-based tests which she felt were not always reasonable. Either I would check in with my student or sometimes she would text me from the bus with a message like...."how could I fail another test" and a rolling eyes emoji. I came to believe that she was actually over prepping for the test and that there was simply too much weighing on the outcome even though pressure was not coming from her parents, her teacher or myself. We worked together to address her perspective and develop strategies for managing her anxiety. Sometimes, there comes a point where a good test grade is important from the standpoint of breaking the "losing streak" and improving confidence.
Right before Christmas break I was thrilled and relieved to receive this text and thus a "running man" reply. 🙂

I was thrilled to receive this text today after reaching out to a former client to wish them happy holidays. I played a very small part in this young adult's success, working with him briefly last summer after his mother reached out to ask for support with him obtaining his GED. These are the kinds of Christmas gifts I love receiving.

My student graduated from a local high school last year. His job coach found him a job in a super market a couple months ago but it too much for him. He felt really bad about being "fired."
