That’s more than half of people showing up to work mentally and emotionally exhausted. And for many, burnout has become so normal that they push through it in silence.
The problem is, when employees don’t feel safe admitting they’re overwhelmed, burnout grows quietly until performance, motivation, and well-being begin to suffer.
Sustainable leadership creates environments where people feel supported enough to speak up before they reach a breaking point. Leaders who listen, adjust expectations, encourage boundaries, and check in consistently help build healthier and more resilient teams.
Burnout Prevention Tip:
Create a culture where employees feel safe saying, “I’m overwhelmed” without fear of judgment. Sometimes support starts with simply asking, “What would help right now?”

Somewhere along the way, many of us learned to associate being overwhelmed with being successful. A packed calendar meant you were important. Constant exhaustion meant you were working hard enough. Pushing through became normal.
But eventually, that pace catches up with you. You start feeling mentally drained before the day even begins. You struggle to be fully present in meetings or at home. Rest starts to feel uncomfortable because there’s always something else that “should” be getting done.
The truth is that many leaders aren’t failing because they lack discipline—they’re exhausted from carrying too much for too long.
Which slide felt the most personal for you? If any of these signs felt familiar, here are 2 small shifts that can help:
1. Stop scheduling yourself at 100% capacity
Leave room in your day to think, breathe, reset, and respond without constantly feeling behind.
2. Pay attention to what actually restores you
Not just distractions or scrolling, but the things that genuinely help you feel clear, grounded, and present again.

Somewhere along the way, many leaders were taught that exhaustion is proof of commitment. That burnout means you’re working hard enough. That constantly pushing yourself is simply “part of leadership.”
But sustainable leadership asks a different question:
What if success wasn’t measured by how depleted you are at the end of the day?
What if productivity looked like clarity, consistency, presence, and impact—not constant overextension?
The truth is, leadership that lasts requires capacity, not chronic exhaustion. When we redefine success through sustainability, we create healthier teams, better decisions, and leadership practices we can actually maintain long term.
Take a moment to reflect:
What would change in your leadership if you measured success by sustainability instead of exhaustion?

This month’s theme is Sustainable Leadership: Preventing Burnout and Building Capacity That Lasts.
We’re starting by redefining productivity. Because being constantly busy, overwhelmed, and exhausted is not a sustainable way to lead.
True productivity is not about doing more at the expense of your well-being. It’s about leading with clarity, focus, intention, and consistency in a way that can actually be maintained long term.
Sustainable leadership starts when we stop glorifying burnout and start prioritizing healthy capacity.

Swipe through for 5 practical ways to support your team with empathy during times of uncertainty.
Leaders who lead with empathy don’t just manage the work—they support the people behind it. And people are far more likely to follow leaders who make them feel understood and supported.

How you think and how you act are more connected than you may realize. Your mindset influences your reactions. Your reactions influence your team.
Emotional intelligence in action means being aware of both, so you can lead with intention instead of defaulting to habit because every interaction is an opportunity to lead more effectively.
