The college counselors attended a Legislative Day event in downtown Baton Rouge on Tuesday, April 29th, hosted by the Southern Association for College Admission Counseling (SACAC). They discussed current legislation related to secondary and higher education in Louisiana with other counselors and admissions professionals throughout the state. Representative Dixon McMackin met with the group to build connections and encourage advocacy, and they also met virtually with David Hawkins, Chief Policy Officer for the National Association of College Admissions Counseling (NACAC). It was a fun morning full of relationship building and learning for all involved!

Yesterday, Dr. Newton toured Georgia Tech!

Georgia Tech's campus is located smack in the middle of downtown Atlanta. Walking around campus, however, there are times when it's easy to forget the university's surrounding urban environment. Looming skyscrapers can be seen from most parts of campus, reminding students of the many internship and co-op opportunities for which Georgia Tech is famous. The abundant trees and lush landscaping, not to mention the massive football stadium, also signal that Georgia Tech is like campuses anywhere, with 600+ clubs, D1 athletics, and almost 20,000 undergraduates. Most of the pictures are of the modern, steel and glass engineering and computer science buildings.

College Counseling always recommends that students visit campuses in person when possible. Walking around Georgia Tech will dispel any notions students might have about Georgia Tech as an urban campus devoid of the "campus life" features of more traditional college locations.
