October is ADHD Awareness Month. Here are 7 facts you need to know about ADHD.

A white paper published in 2014 examined how to improve students' reading achievements. Here are the highlights:
• Five critical factors for reading are phonological awareness,
phonics or word recognition, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension
• Research indicates many children who struggle with reading have difficulty processing the “fast parts” of speech
• The brain is able to change itself (brain plasticity) beyond early development. The stimuli needed to change the brain must be intentional, intense, focused and repetitive.
Where reading and brain science meet:
• Fast ForWord was developed to train students in sound perception using technology to alter the production of the “fast” sounds.
• Clinical research indicated that students using and enhanced auditory processing program made significantly greater progress in speech discrimination, language processing, and grammatical comprehension
• Fast ForWord and Reading Assistant appear to offer some new ways of thinking about and approaching reading instruction using technology and our understandings of what is important in learning to read.
