Parents, graduation is a milestone. But what happens the day after? Can your child communicate their needs, navigate their community, make choices, or access meaningful work and activities? These are the kinds of outcomes we need to think about when developing transition plans.

Good transition planning connects postsecondary goals to the instruction, services, and experiences students need while they’re still in school so that they are prepared for life after high school.

Initially, that didn’t happen for my son. Thankfully, the school district got it right at the end (3 months before graduation 🤦🏽‍♀️). But everyone is not as fortunate as we were.

IEP Parents: Unless the IEP notes otherwise, your child’s IEP accommodations are to be implemented across all environments by all staff in which the accommodation is applicable. So if your child has an accommodation to get a study guide, your child should be getting a study guide for all classes not just academics.
