Introducing…
Perry Tanner, PA-S, Class of 2023
SGA Vice President

Hometown: Dublin, GA

Education: Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science, University of Georgia

Specialties I’m Interested In: Dermatology, Women's Health, Cardiology, Hematology/Oncology

Fun Fact: I auditioned for Broadway when I was 10!

Why I wanted to become a PA: One of the main reasons I wanted to be a PA is because I know how scary and daunting going to the doctor's office can be for some. I want to be the calming and approachable presence that can put people at ease, and I'm looking forward to having a more personable relationship with my patients.

Advice: Prioritize school and studying, but also prioritize the things that make you happy! Despite what you may think, there is always time for both. Make sure to take the opportunity to get outside whenever you can and explore areas around Atlanta. Dedicate time to getting to know your classmates - they will be your support system throughout PA school!

Introducing…
Samantha Williams, PA-S, Class of 2023

Hometown: West Haverstraw, NY

Education: Bachelor of Science in Biobehavioral Health, Pennsylvania State University

Specialties I’m Interested In: OBGYN and Emergency Medicine

Fun Fact: I got a mini poodle puppy during Q4 of PA school

Why I wanted to become a PA: I have wanted to work in the medical field since forever and once I learned about the PA profession I felt like it was an easy decision. After working as an MA for 3 years in OBGYN, I realized the impact PAs could have on patients and I wanted to be that person.

Advice: Remember to enjoy your life so you don’t burn out, and PA school is much easier with a group of friends to help and support you!

Introducing…
Stewart Harvey, PA-S, Class of 2023
SGA GAPA Representative

Hometown: Jacksonville, FL

Education: Bachelor of Science in Psychology, University of Florida🐊

Specialties I’m Interested In: Infectious Disease

Fun fact: I developed speech later than normal as a kid but when I did it was full sentences. Also, for me, I really like corn.

Why I wanted to become a PA: I think what drew me to the PA profession was the flexibility to work in any specialty. I’ve always been interested in medicine, but I could never really nail down one single field of interest. And though I’m currently interested in infectious disease, I have unlimited options at my disposal and the opportunity to pursue any future interests as I deem necessary.

Advice: PA school is hard. You will have to make adjustments, but nothing worth doing is easy. Remember that.

Introducing…
Kate Baskin, PA-S, Class of 2023

Hometown: Douglasville, GA

Education: Bachelor of Science in Biology, University of Georgia

Specialties I’m Interested In: Dermatology and Plastic Surgery

Fun Fact: I’m an amateur carpenter

Why I wanted to become a PA: I always knew that I wanted to work in medicine, but it wasn't until working as a medical assistant for several PAs during my gap year that I fell in love with the profession. The level of care and attention they gave to each one of our patients was inspiring. I hope to impact my patients in a similar way.

Why I love South College Atlanta: My favorite thing about South College is the open-mindedness of our professors. They go out of their way to get constructive feedback from the students and use that feedback to constantly improve. It's very encouraging to know that you are being heard and that everyone in the program is part of the same team.

Advice: Plan to do something fun at least one day each week even if all you have time for is to watch one movie or go to dinner. Having something to look forward to makes a big difference in your mental health when studying long hours!

Why I love South College Atlanta: My favorite thing about south college is how supportive the staff and students are! Everyone wants you to succeed and we’re all in this together.

Advice: Schedule in some down time in between blocks of exams! PA school is exhausting and there’s always something else to be working on, but you’ll burn out too quickly if you neglect taking care of yourself!
