One of the best surprises of the 2026 Law Enforcement Appreciation Day was seeing one of my former GBI interns walk up to me, now serving as a Sandy Springs police officer.

He was recognized as a nominee for the Valor Award, and I could not be prouder of him.

Thank you to the Atlanta Chapter of ASIS International for recognizing the courageous men and women who serve our communities.

I absolutely love seeing my former interns doing well and making a difference. This one made my day!

It was an honor to serve as emcee for the 32nd Annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, hosted by the Atlanta Chapter of ASIS International.

I will always value opportunities to recognize and celebrate the courageous men and women who run toward danger every day in service to others. Congratulations to all of this year’s nominees, and thank you for your leadership, sacrifice and unwavering commitment to keeping our communities safe.

The event also provided a wonderful opportunity to share the excitement surrounding GSX, which is coming to Atlanta in just a few short weeks! I’m looking forward to welcoming security and public safety professionals from around the world.

365 days later...

My last day in my GBI office was 7/31/2025. Much has changed. Much has stayed the same.

In ‘retirement, I’ve struggled to sit still.
Learning and growing always. I still get to serve (local government, state government, & now the private sector).

No two days look the same.

I could be covering an event, brainstorming with the comms team I’m embedded with or pitching a story to my favorite Atlanta reporters (I truly love them all.

The best part? I’m surrounded by amazing leaders across the great state of Georgia every day.

Do I intend to branch out? Of course...in due time.

But for now, I sit in awe and gratitude.
Can’t wait to see what the next 365 brings!

Henry County has appointed Chief Bess Baugh as the new Chief of Police!

With 30 years of distinguished law enforcement experience, including the past 20 years serving the Henry County Police Department, Chief Baugh brings a proven record of leadership, integrity, and commitment to public safety.

Throughout her career, she has broken barriers while rising through the ranks, becoming the first Black woman to serve as Captain, Major, and now Chief of Police in the department’s history.

As Chief, Baugh is committed to strengthening community partnerships, supporting officer wellness and ensuring the Henry County Police Department continues to provide exceptional service to those who live, work, and visit our community.
