As summer comes to an end and a new school year begins, we want to highlight some of the amazing work our students completed at The Reading Refinery this summer! 📚 From exploring informational texts and using text evidence, to strengthening visualization and comprehension skills while reading, our students worked incredibly hard, built confidence, and continued growing as readers. 😃 We are so proud of all they accomplished and excited to see them take these skills with them into the new school year! 🍎📖 Great job to all of our summer readers 👏🏻we’re cheering you on!

I agree with ALL of these, but my top three are:

1. Get to know your child’s teacher! 🍎
Teachers are not the enemy, they’re there to help! Trust them, support them, and work together as a team. When parents and teachers are on the same page, students benefit.

2. Start the year with a consistent homework routine. 📚
Same time, same place, and make asking for help a normal part of the routine. And BTW…The Reading Refinery offers homework support in a quiet, encouraging environment!

3. Give them time to decompress. 💛
Classrooms can be incredibly overstimulating. Set up a designated quiet homework space at home, and consider giving your child some quiet/alone time after school before expecting them to jump into homework, conversations, chores, or activities.

A little consistency, teamwork, and downtime can go a long way toward starting the school year successfully!

Yikes! How is it mid-August 🤦🏻‍♀️ Updated hours for this month as we all try to get back into school mode. 👩🏻‍🏫 I will be teaching part time this Fall, allowing me to open & tutor earlier in the afternoons! Fall hours coming soon!! 🍁🎃
