For the month of May we are offering any of our classes for FREE to departments wishing to help us out. All we are asking in return is that any departments association, union, or relief make a monetary donation (any amount) to help this child and his family with their medical bills. Let’s take this opportunity to show them how great our brotherhood really is, and that this little guy is important to us. I know times are tough right now, but let’s do our best! Please contact us through email or phone if you would like to participate. Keltic Irons will be making our own donation from proceeds from previous classes. Thank you and below is our contact info.

We dread the day this is over! Best job on earth!

Sometimes we forget the job is finite. We work our tours, answer our calls, and show up to our trainings with little thought or consideration to the fact that eventually, we will all be showing up for the last time. There is so much to take in, yet it seems like there is always another class, assignment, or promotion to prepare for that distracts us from the little things we will miss the most. Instead of recognizing what every trip to the firehouse gives us, we subconsciously begin to endure our careers more than we actually enjoy them, constantly griping about everything that is wrong with the “best job on earth”.

The truth of the matter is we have become far too concerned with ourselves, believing we serve the fire department, not the citizens. We are lost in policies, standards, and tactics that are supposed to be for them, but have devolved into being about us. We bicker back and forth about whether we need more leadership or followership, certifications or experience, and new ways or old ways when in reality the fire service just needs a heaping dose of BALANCE!!! And while most of us dispute down these rabbit holes in good faith trying to improve the job we love so much, all we end up doing is robbing ourselves of opportunities to appreciate what we actually have.

The fire department answered the call long before we came and will continue to do so long after we go. However, friends grow apart, kids grow up, and sadly we all grow old. Our calling demands that we make time for the job, however, our welfare demands we make the most out of it. While there are many things worth fighting for in this profession, most of the time another checklist, policy, or memo will do very little in actually helping us carry out the mission. So, while we should all aim to make the job better, don’t forget to take some time to actually enjoy it while it lasts…

I don’t give a damn if you are paid or not, man or women, what religion you believe in. All I care about is are you willing to stretch down a hallway with me and get the job done. Nothing like pushing in and hearing the person behind you saying “Let’s go get it”. When you both have the same desire for the job, that is when you become family.
