The Grounds Department recently hosted Robert Wiggins, Assistant Director of Landscape Services at North Carolina State University, and his team to campus. They were interested in learning about our ongoing transition to electric landscape equipment. While here, they also learned about the Grounds Department IPM program as well as our Grounds Academy. According to Mr. Wiggins, “it was a great networking opportunity for us. The campus is beautiful and UGA has a great Grounds Department team!”.

The Grounds Department has contracted with New Urban Forestry to remove a large oak tree in the cemetery on Jackson Street. The tree is declining and has become a potential hazard to Jackson Street and the surrounding sidewalk. Jackson Street and the adjacent sidewalks will be closed on Saturday, September 19, 2026, while the tree removal work is being completed. Please refer to the attached map for the closure area and designated sidewalk reroute.

On September 16th and 17th, the Grounds Dept. Tree Crew will be removing several pine trees at University Village. A portion of the sidewalk will need to be closed during the tree removal work. Please refer to the attached map for the location of the sidewalk closure.

The Facilities Management Grounds Construction shop will require a lane closure on River Road at the bus stop in front of Busbee Hall from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM on 8/31/2026 for asphalt repair.

The Facilities Management Division, Maintenance Project Management department, will require a lane reduction and detour in front of Busbee Hall on River Road. The lane reduction and detour will take place this Sunday, August 30th from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This will be the same route as the summer closure. The contractor will have signage and barrels in place. This is necessary to grout all the expansion joints in the project area. See the attached traffic map.
