Primate laboratory at UGA studying behavior from a broadly ethological perspective.

Researchers in the Primate Cognition and Behavior Laboratory, directed by Dr. Dorothy Fragaszy of the Behavioral and Brain Sciences Program, study behavior from a broadly ethological perspective (that is, with the goal of understanding the development, function, and evolution of behavior, and the mechanisms that support it). Current projects concern manual dexterity, tool use, spatial organization

๐ŸšจPSA: Surgical masks WILL NOT protect you against the COVID-19 coronavirus. Viruses are small, and buying surgical masks only hurts the people who actually need them (i.e. medical professionals, and anyone who works with PRIMATES ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿฆง).

Tuberculosis is a zoonotic (can be spread between humans and animals) bacterial disease, which is difficult to detect in nonhuman primates and spreads rapidly. There is no effective treatment for this disease in nonhuman primates. For this reason, the USDA mandates mask-use for people working with non-human primates (but especially great apes).

Behind many pictures of chimpanzees lies a deadly reality of poaching, illegal trade, cruelty and abuse. A wild baby suffering in a disreputable zoo or as a pet, can represent the death of up to 10 family members. With populations in the wild plummeting and chimpanzees an endangered species, this has to stop. Chimpanzees and other great apes and primates belong in the wild.

Stand up for conservation and against animal abuse and wildlife trafficking:
