A full circle moment. This past week, VetCAMP counselor and rising second-year student Jordan Castle returned to the program that helped inspire her path to veterinary medicine.
Even more meaningful—she worked alongside Dr. Jude Thornton, who was once her own VetCAMP counselor back in 2019 while he was a DVM student. Today, he’s now part of the UGA Pet Health Center team.
VetCAMP is an intensive, weeklong program for high school students interested in veterinary medicine. We love to see the lasting impact the program's mentors and experiences can have across generations of future veterinarians.

We’re excited to have them as part of our team and look forward to supporting their growth throughout the year!

Another successful VetCAMP is in the books! Each summer, opens its doors to high school students in grades 10–12 for an immersive, weeklong experience exploring veterinary medicine.
From hands-on necropsy and anatomy labs to behind-the-scenes access at our Veterinary Teaching Hospital, campers gain a firsthand look at the field.
Participants also learn about the wide range of careers in veterinary medicine and connect one-on-one with current DVM students and faculty to ask questions and explore their future paths.
We loved hosting this year’s group and look forward to seeing where their journeys take them!

While there are no New World Screwworm cases in Georgia, we’re asking livestock and pet owners to keep a close watch on their animals.
The most important thing you can do is know the signs and report suspected cases immediately.
Watch for:
• Draining or enlarging wounds
• Maggots or egg masses in wounds
• Signs of discomfort
• Lesions in body openings (nose, ears, genitalia, umbilical area)
Early detection is critical to protecting animal health. If you suspect NWS, report it right away to the Animal Health Division at 404-656-3667 or [email protected]
