CFP: OEB Literary Society at ALA 2027

The Octavia E. Butler Literary Society (OEBLS) invites individual proposals for 1-2 panels at the American Literature Association’s 38th Annual Conference, to be held May 26–29, 2027, at The Westin Copley Place in Boston, Massachusetts.

We welcome proposals that explore any aspect of Octavia E. Butler’s life, work, and legacy. We especially encourage scholarship that engages with Butler’s literary works and/or her archives, including papers that consider her novels, short fiction, essays, journals, correspondence, manuscripts, notebooks, interviews, and other archival materials.

Submission Guidelines
- Submission Deadline:
December 4, 2026
- Please submit your proposal through the OEBLS submission form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfPa_zf95cGD-MDs5tOKqwsfoSJoLm7SA8jznRLQHA_o8pNfw/viewform -- emailed abstracts will not be accepted.

Because the OEBLS must subsequently submit its selected panel proposal to the American Literature Association according to the conference's panel-submission requirements, proposals submitted through the OEBLS form will be reviewed in advance of the ALA submission deadline.
