Last week, our PA students combined their elective courses to put their training to the test in a two day disaster simulation. Navigating a simulated severe flood zone in darkness with only flashlights, students encountered sirens, rain, and chaotic radio static. To mimic real-world humanitarian deployment, they had to manage complex co-morbid emergencies, track finite medical manifest supplies, complete paper triage logs, and deliver critical radio handoffs to Incident Command.

🩺 What specialty are you most interested in at the moment: Endocrinology or Internal Medicine

👨‍⚕️ Why do you want to be a PA? "Because I strive to have more of a connection with patients and provide the best education and care that I possibly can."

⚕️ Why CU PA?: "I feel at home with the personability between faculty and students. I knew I would never want to apply anywhere else since I was an undergraduate at Concord University."

Happy ! We're starting off the week introducing CU PA's class of 2027! Meet Avalon Milburn, PA-S 🐾

🏠 Hometown: Dana Point, CA

🩺 What specialty are you most interested in at the moment: Family Medicine and Orthopedic Surgery

⚕️ Why CU PA?: I wanted the community and closeness of the Concord family. I saw the need for rural medical care and felt this was the best place to get that education and experience. I also love being a part of the first cohort for this program and having the opportunity to help shape it.

🗣️ Advice to give future PA students or people who are currently applying to PA schools: Get as much clinical experience in different specialties before you apply to get an idea of what you feel passionate about. That passion will become a strong driver when things become challenging.
