Georgia Debate

It's been a busy April for the Georgia Debate Union! After the NDT, we hosted our Russell Advocacy Scholars debate in conjunction with the UGA Libraries. The team also participated in the University System of Georgia Regents Cup debate tournament. Cheers to Alexander and Alex for their hard work!

The Georgia Debate Union has returned from this past weekend's National Debate Tournament (NDT). Both Georgia CK (Ida Chapman & Kaidar-Heafetz) and Georgia CP (Zoe Cannon & Laurel Pack) finished the NDT with a 4-4 record and 11 ballots each. We are very proud of the season we had this year and ready to start the road to the 2027 NDT!

Congratulations to Georgia CK (Ida Chapman & Eshkar Kaidar-Heafetz) and Georgia CP (Zoe Cannon & Laurel Pack) for qualifying to the National Debate Tournament out of the District 6 qualifying process! This is the Georgia Debate Union's 37th consecutive season qualifying at least 1 team to the NDT.

Great turnout at the Special Collections Library for our Russell Foundation Scholars debate. Eshkar and Alexander argued about the morality artificial general intelligence. Thanks to everyone for coming!

The Georgia Debate Union competed this weekend at the Minnesota College Debate Invitational. Georgia CP (Zoe Cannon & Laurel Pack) finished as semifinalists! Zoe & Laurel defeated teams from Emory, Dartmouth, Wake Forest, Kansas, Michigan State, Macalester, and Missouri State on their impressive run. Also debating was Georgia CL (Ida Chapman & Caroline Lackey), who had a very competitive tournament. Thanks to the University of Minnesota for hosting!

The Georgia Debate Union had a strong start to the year at last weekend's Northwestern Tournament! Georgia CP (Zoe Cannon & Laurel Pack) & Georgia CK (Ida Chapman & Eskhar Kaidar-Heafetz) competed in the Open Division and Georgia GL (Alexander Glover & Caroline Lackey) competed in the Junior Varsity Division. We're back in Athens preparing for our next tournament at the University of Kentucky!
