Congratulations to UGA Anthropology alumnus David Hecht for receiving the 2026 Young Alumni Award from his baccalaureate university, Luther College!! 🥳🥳

David received his PhD in Anthropology and Integrative Conservation at UGA in 2022 and currently works at UGA’s Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant! 🤩

David will also deliver Luther College’s Commencement address on Sunday, May 24th, 2026 at 9am in Carlson Stadium, Decorah, IA. ☺️

Seungyeon received the 2026 SAA Student Paper Award, and Sarieh received the 2026 SAA Dienje Kenyon Memorial Fellowship🤩🤩

Please join us in congratulating our alumnus James Strawn as he joins Troy University as an Assistant Professor and Archaeology Lab Manager in the Department of Anthropology, Sociology, and Criminology beginning this fall!!! 🥳🥳

A first-generation college student and veteran, James is currently a Visiting Graduate Scholar at the University of Michigan Museum of Anthropological Archaeology in Ann Arbor. He will be relocating to Troy, Alabama with his wife, dogs, and cats this summer!! 🤩

CONGRATULATIONS to Ph.D. student Rui Bai for publishing two articles!!!! 🥳🥳

The first article was published in the Journal of Anthropological Archaeology, and the second in Archaeological Research in Asia. Both examine how prehistoric communities in China organized themselves thousands of years ago 🤩🤩
