Dwelling Place Youth Athens

This week we will be doing a youth group level overview of Islam. Due to the prevalence and growth of this religion in our area and in the United States, we need to have a reasoned defense of our faith against the claims of Islam.

We will cover some history, major points in their theology, and where we as Christians can more readily evangelize to them.

This week we will be discussing two of the major “christian cults”: Mormonism and Jehovah’s Witnesses. This will be a simple overview of what they believe and how we can effectively evangelize to these groups.
One of the major points we will focus on is “learning one thing very well” when dealing with these type of groups. Specializing in one area like: "The divinity of Jesus”, “The Bible versus other texts”, and/or "How are we saved”?
The next few weeks deal heavily in the idea of “Christian Exclusivism” as we believe that Jesus alone is The Way, The Truth, and The Life.

May 24th was Pentecost Sunday, the day that marks one of the most important days in the Christian calendar. The Holy Spirit is not just the sealing of God’s promise to us as believers but a member of the Trinity who is living and active in the lives of believers. We are Temples of the Holy Spirit and that means our lives are categorically different from the rest of the world. The same Spirit that raised our Savior, the same Spirit that hovered over the waters of creation, the same Spirit that spoke to the prophets, and by the same Spirit in which we live, move, and have our being.

I earnestly ask for your prayers over this sermon. We will end in a time of response where we will pray for and seek the baptism, the full indwelling, and the gifts of the Holy Spirit to manifest in the lives of our students. I expect this to be a powerful and impactful night for them.
