The University of Georgia The University of Georgia Hugh Hodgson School of Music is home to approximately 600 students and a faculty of 65.

The School offers a wide variety of degree programs from baccalaureate through doctoral levels, as well as many opportunities for all UGA students to participate in ensembles and academic classes. Each year the School offers nearly 350 public performances. The UGA Hugh Hodgson School of Music is pleased to announce that Eleanor Price will be joining us as assistant professor of musicology beginning August 1, 2026. Eleanor Price is joining the faculty of the Hugh Hodgson School of Music at the University of Georgia from KU Leuven in Belgium, where she is currently a postdoctoral research associate. The UGA Hugh Hodgson School of Music is pleased to announce that Tyler Goehring will be joining the faculty as assistant professor in music education (strings) beginning August 1, 2026. He previously taught orchestra at multiple elementary, middle, and high schools throughout Florida. The UGA Hugh Hodgson School of Music is please to announce that Scott Cuellar will be joining the faculty as assistant professor of piano August 1, 2026. In reviewing pianist Scott Cuellar’s debut recital at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, David LaMarche of the New York Concert Review described Cuellar’s performance as “virtuosic in scope and expression, like a great man of the theater,” and praised his “ability to illuminate both the external structure and the emotional core of the work he plays.” Read more at the link in the comments.

The UGA Hugh Hodgson School of Music is excited to welcome Felix Olschofka as our new Director, beginning August 1! Felix’s expertise in higher education spans over two decades. Before his current appointment as the Director of the Glenn Korff School of Music at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, he served at the University of North Texas College of Music as Associate Dean for Operations and Director of Graduate Studies. Along with a strong foundation in violin performance and teaching, he brings a balance of academic leadership and arts administration. Link to story in comments.

On April 20, the UGA Wind Symphony and the Apalachee High School Wind Ensemble presented a vibrant sensory-friendly concert titled “Amerykahn Graffiti” in Hodgson Concert Hall. Conductors Jack A. Eaddy Jr., Dion Muldrow, R. Scott Mullen, and guest Brett Bawcum led the ensembles through a program highlighted by the world premiere from Composer in Residence Marie Douglas, as well as the Georgia premiere of Katahj Copley’s titular work. This meaningful collaboration with the UGA Music Therapy Association and the UGA Arts Collaborative created an inclusive and accessible space for our community to experience the power of wind band music together. We hope to see you at the next performance!

On April 16, the University of Georgia Wind Ensemble and conductor Nicholas Enrico Williams presented an extraordinary program in Hodgson Concert Hall highlighted by the 75th anniversary of Paul Hindemith’s Symphony in B-flat. The performance featured faculty flutist Angela Jones-Reus on Adolphus Hailstork’s The Bones of Mr. Fortune and dynamic works by Adam Schoenberg, Shuying Li, and Nicole Piunno, with featured conducting by doctoral associates Derik J. Wright and Jordan M. Fansler. We invite you to join us for our next ensemble performance on campus!

Our last full week of classes is finally here! Tonight, the Wind Symphony inviting the Apalachee High School Wind Ensemble to join them for “Amerykhan Graffiti,” a. Sensory-friendly performance in collaboration with the UGA Arts Collaborative and our Music Therapy faculty. Join them Monday, 4/20 at 7:30 p.m. in Hodgson Hall. But first, don’t miss the Southern Wind Quintet at 3:30 p.m. in Ramsey Hall and the Bulldog Brass Society at 4:30 p.m. in Edge Hall. The Middle East Music Ensemble performs Tuesday, 4/21 at 7:30 p.m. in Ramsey Hall.
 
Our final ticketed performance of the year is our combined concert, with the University of Georgia Symphony Orchestra joined by the Hodgson Singers, University Chorus, Georgia Treble Choir, and UGA Glee Club for “Carmina Burana” by Carl Orff on Thursday, 4/23 at 7:30 p.m. in Hodgson Hall. Tickets for this event sell quickly, and we are already half-sold, so visit music.uga.edu to get your tickets now. This week closes with the African American Choral Ensemble performing on Friday, 4/24 at 7:30 p.m. in Hodgson Hall.

On April 12, the UGA Opera Theatre will bring the charm of the Regency era to the East Campus Arts Quad with an encore performance of Jonathan Dove’s Mansfield Park. This free outdoor presentation, held in collaboration with the State Botanical Garden of Georgia, offers a wonderful chance to experience Jane Austen’s classic story through the voices of our talented student artists.
