🌍 You’re all invited! Communication and Development would like to invite you to join an online conversation with Emmanuel Ametepey , Founder and Executive Director of Youth Advocates Ghana.

He will share his experience on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Africa and the work being done to strengthen youth participation in shaping the future of the continent.

In 2017 , Emmanuel launched the African Youth SDGs Summit ,the largest forum created to amplify the power and voice of young people, advocate for investment in youth development, and improve the lives and future of youth across the region.

Today kicked off the beginning of Ohio Communication Association conference, and 7 CommDev (Communication and Development) students proudly shared their research. We’re truly proud of the incredible work they continue to do!!!

The 90th Annual OCA Conference runs October 2–3 in Athens, Ohio, with the theme “Foundations & Futures: Constructing Meaning in a Fragmented World.” Over two days at the Schoonover Center and the Radio-Television Building, communication scholars, educators, and practitioners will share research papers, research-in-progress sessions, workshops, teaching activities, and a poster competition.

Today’s class in Introduction to Communication and Development Studies with the Director Dr. Saumya Pant took place with first-year students as they deep dived into capstone projects, research, and the different ways students can bring their ideas to life.

Students explored how a capstone can take both creative and academic forms, while still being grounded in meaningful research and critical inquiry. They also went deeper into the research process, thinking about how to turn an idea into a well-developed project that contributes something meaningful.

It was a really insightful session on connecting creativity, research, and practice.

Today CommDevers grabbed the opportunity to visit Passion Works Studio!🎨✨

Passion Works Studio creates opportunities for all people to explore, connect socially, and grow through the process of making art. They follow participants’ lead honoring talents, interests, and developmental differences while collaborating with people of all abilities to create vibrant, inclusive communities.

They also upcycle otherwise discarded materials to produce environmentally responsible artistic items.

Grateful for a visit that celebrated creativity, community, and connection. 💛

Joy is a communication and digital media professional with a BA Communication degree (Honors) from Daystar University, specializing in Public Relations. As a first-year CommDev student, she is passionate about civic engagement and developing into policy communication. Her research focuses on how digital media can help address political literacy gaps among Kenyan youth.

Joy is also a loyal Arsenal fan and enjoys writing fiction in her free time.

Sibongile is a dedicated public health professional and State Tested Nurse Aide (STNA), with a B.S. in Health (Community and Public Health) from Ohio University. She has experience in health education, cross-cultural communication, community outreach, and clinical care, with fluency in English, Chichewa, Tumbuka, and Tonga. Her work as a Food Navigator and Stocking Assistant at the Heritage College Food Pantry strengthened her commitment to nutrition security and supporting underserved communities.

Sibongile is eager to pursue a Master’s in Communication and Development Studies to build culturally responsive communication strategies that advance health equity and empower marginalized populations.
