Buy a pint today and part of the proceeds will benefit our local LGBTQ+ youth, buy a Pride cocktail any time this month and part of the proceeds will benefit us as well! The first piece of art has officially been created coming to us from a young out of town visitor, who came up with this message of support for LGBTQ+ youth all on her own!!! The kids are alright!!

Last week at Prism LGBTQ Youth Art Program we had an equally educational and entertaining visit from our Fulbright Language Teaching Assistants (FLTAs) friends from India, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia and Cat Cutcher, who shared art, games, fun facts and lots of treats and laughs with us! Check out some highlights below!

Last week we also said goodbye to Prism volunteer Maddy Morris (they/them) who has been with us the last two years and graduated from OU last week! Of their time with Prism, Maddy said:

“It’s been so much fun to see the heart and creativity each student put into their art. Wednesday has been my favorite day of the week because I got to hang out and create art with some wonderful people. I will miss it dearly!”

This week we will be joined by returning guest artist, Nancy Baur (she/her), who will show us how to make Rainbow I-Spy games with some of our colored rice with a recycled plastic bottle and some small alphabet beads. This activity is a great tool to help with mindfulness and reducing anxiety while making it a personal project. Come join us at 3:00pm on the third floor of Yamada House!

A huge thanks to Bella Bolin (she/her) for joining us last week as a guest artist for the first time at Prism LGBTQ Youth Art Program and helping us add some sweet patches and alterations to our clothes! Here’s a few examples of our finished work below!

Today we’ll be joined by returning guest artist Caitlin Kraus (she/her) for a project titled: “Meaningful Metaphor in Music.” For this project we will use guided meditation and songwriting exercises incorporating the use of metaphor to explore connection to self and others, and how identity and values shape these connections. Join us at Yamada House 3rd floor today from 3:00pm-5:30pm for some musical fun!

Also, be sure to check out Caitlin’s talents online or in person at one of her upcoming performances!

Last week we enjoyed a little fun in the sun on college Green with Sonic slushies before switching over to making some beautiful neurographic art watercolor designs (seen below) with guest artist Susie Thompson (she/her)!

This week we welcome new to Prism LGBTQ Youth Art Program guest artist Bella Bolin (she/her) for a patch making project! Bella shares “this is one of my favorite sewing activities because it forces you to slow down and create something uniquely you. Patches often are used for protest and a huge part of punk culture which is very important to me.”

A little more about Bella:
I have been working as a clothing mender at Athens Upcycle’s Community Makerspace for the past two years, repairing clothing to reduce waste. Follow my instagram! .
