From educating future teachers to preparing doctors, the 58-acre campus at the intersection of Prince and Oglethorpe avenues in Athens’ Normaltown district has been the training ground of a wide array of vital professions.

Before it became known as the University of Georgia’s Health Sciences Campus, the site was—at one time or another—the State Normal School, Coordinate College, and the U.S. Navy Supply Corps School. More recently, the campus has been home to the UGA College of Public Health and the AU UGA Medical Partnership. The first class of The University of Georgia School of Medicine students joined the campus this fall, and it will also be the future home of the Victoria Kay Ivester School of Nursing.

Dr. Carrie Kelly has been named the assistant dean for faculty development at the University of Georgia School of Medicine.

“I love the impact this role can have, as it is helping to develop the faculty who are supporting the future physicians of thousands of patients,” said Kelly. “Our goal is to develop excellent physicians, and we as faculty can do that if we are functioning at the best of our ability. When we are doing our best, it supports our students in their development and benefits their future patients.”

Kelly previously served on the faculty at the School of Medicine and Medical Partnership.

On August 29, our inaugural class donned their white coats for the first time at our White Coat Ceremony.

“The white coat that you will don is more than a garment. It represents a lifelong journey of learning the art and science of medicine and service. It is a privileged garment. To your patients, it represents integrity and expertise. It represents the lifelong commitment to the pursuit of healing. You will wear it in moments of hope, moments of loss, mourning, joy, and even discovery. Wear it with pride, but with humility.”
