We love a trailblazer. Congratulations to Lila Sloan, the first graduate of Athens Community Career Academy’s Public Safety Academy pathway.
Lila’s success reflects the power of hands-on learning, dedicated instructors, and strong community partnerships. Through ACCA’s Public Safety Academy, students gain real-world experience and industry credentials that prepare them for both college and career opportunities in public service.
🎓🚑 Congratulations to Lila Sloan – the First Graduate of the Public Safety Academy! 🚑🎓
The Athens-Clarke County Fire Department is proud to recognize Lila Sloan, the first graduate of the Athens Community Career Academy’s (ACCA) Public Safety Academy pathway.
While still in high school, Lila earned her Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) certification to begin her EMS career ahead of schedule. This fall, she will attend Georgia State University to complete a Paramedic Bridge Program while working part-time with Jackson County EMS. After turning 21, she plans to join Grady EMS before ultimately pursuing her goal of serving with Washington, D.C. Fire and EMS, where she has family ties.
Lila’s accomplishments demonstrate what is possible when motivated students are provided with meaningful opportunities, dedicated instructors, and strong community partnerships.
The ACCA provides students with access to smaller learning communities that connect classroom learning with real-world experiences. Through partnerships with local businesses, public safety agencies, healthcare providers, and community organizations, students gain hands-on experience while preparing for both college and career success.
The Public Safety Academy, housed within the Business & Public Safety Academy, is helping develop the next generation of firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency medical providers, and public servants.
Congratulations, Lila! We are excited to see where your journey takes you and proud to have been a small part of your success story. Pictured is Lt. Michael Roberts, (ACCA Instructor) and Lila holding a gift from IAAF Local 2795 a tee shirt to remember her time in Athens and her first Fire Department patch from ACCFD.

We also recognized the amazing community and business partners, along with the dedicated staff members, who help make Athens Community Career Academy such a special place.

We couldn’t be more proud of our students and the way they represented ACCA. Whether they took the stage as speakers, worked behind the scenes on the production crew, or helped prepare snacks, each student played an important role. This is what empowering young minds looks like.
