Now that we're back in the swing of the semester, we're still learning about everything our faculty and staff got up to over the summer.

Dr. Glenn Abraham, associate professor of social work, spent part of his July in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, at the 51st Annual National Conference on Social Work, Health, and Human Services in Rural Areas. He presented twice.

The first session asked whether recruiting your own clients in substance use treatment amounts to a new form of patient brokering. The second looked at how people in rural areas use phone apps to get political information. Both were presented alongside Dr. Terry Cluse-Tolar of Ohio University and Dr. Michel Coconis of the Mid-Ohio Food Collective.

The conference has run for 51 years and brings together researchers and practitioners working on rural health, addiction, poverty, and access to care. This year's theme was "Rural is Real."

Our faculty do a lot that never shows up on a class schedule. We'll keep sharing it as we hear about it.
