What time is it? SUMMERTIME!!

Spring 2026 has been a wild ride! We've moved boxes, bagged artifacts, entered data, got trucks stuck, visited elementary school career days, presented at conferences, welcomed post docs, defended dissertaions, drank lots of coffee, competed in March Mammal Madness, won grants, finished classes, designed museum exhibits, wrote books, enjoyed ice cream socials, visited sites, updated the Oaxaca database, scanned documents, assisted countless First Lego Leauge Teams, AND we got a new suburban!!!

We can't wait to see what Summer 2026 has in store; stay tuned for more!

We are so proud of all of our graduates! These students have all worked to make the Lab run efficiently and effectively. We could not do the high quality and quantity of work we do here without our incredible students! Thank you all so much for your hard work - we are so proud of you!!!

What would you listen to if you were in the lab?

Personally, sorting historic artifacts always makes me want to listen to the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack.

Happy (belated) Earth Day!!! Our Lab staff had a great time at UGA’s Earth Gay event hosted by queer_ecology! We love talking about the different types of conservation and how important the environment is 🌎

Happy World Book Day from the UGA Laboratory of Archaeology! 📖

Our team members have been sharing their favorite reads, spanning cultural anthropology, military history, folklore, genetics, and even fantasy. Because great archaeologists are curious about everything, not just what's in the ground.

Check out our book recommendations and let us know: what are YOU reading this World Book Day?

Throwback Thursday: Some of our favorite memories come from the field: the early mornings, the dirt under your fingernails, and the thrill of not knowing what the next few centimeters might hold.

Field training is at the heart of what we do — connecting students to the land, the history, and the communities whose stories we work to preserve and share.
