Fiber is a nutrient that Americans typically need to eat more often. Looking at a Nutrition Facts Label, look for total carbohydrate. Under that, you will see dietary fiber. To the right, you will see a percentage of the daily value. Look for foods that have a higher number. Foods with the Daily Value of dietary fiber 10-19% are good sources. Food with 20% or more is an excellent source of fiber. Read more on how to understand nutrition labels.

Most adults need at least 25 grams of fiber per day. Calorie level, s*x, and age can all affect this amount. If you are looking to increase the amount of fiber that you eat, make sure to also drink more water. Fiber requires more water to move through your body without causing discomfort, such as nausea or constipation.
