If you’ve lived in Athens for a while, odds are you already know Master José Castro. Whether it’s from TKD classes at the Y, one of the several restaurants he cheffed at, his catering business, the new school on Broad Street, or Bonbones, his traveling humidor.

A true renaissance man, Master Castro started training in 1969 in Misawa, Japan, and he’s been teaching here since 1987. That’s 39 years of Athens area students learning from the same teacher. Today, he’s a 7th-degree black belt and a G**o in Pekiti Tirsia Kali.

If you haven’t had the pleasure of meeting him in person, there’s no shortage of eager and willing students ready to sing his praises. Reviews abound from CMAC families using words like personable, accessible, and caring.

ATTENTION CMAC FAMILY!

Due to the postponement of Saturday's belt testing because of inclement weather, we will be conducting make-up testing during regular classes throughout this week (October 12–16).

Red Belts and Above: We strongly encourage you to test on Tuesday evening during either:

- 6:15 PM – Black Belt Class
- 7:00 PM – Leadership Class

We understand that these times may not work for everyone, so students will have the entire week to complete their testing during regular class times.

BELT PROMOTION & CELEBRATION

Join us on Sunday, October 18, beginning at 3:00 PM for a special celebration!

We invite everyone to bring their favorite snack, treat, dip, chips, or other dish to share as we celebrate our students' accomplishments.

New ranks and certificates will be awarded during the celebration. Please note that belts may not arrive until Monday, October 19, and will be distributed during regular class times if necessary.

IMPORTANT REGISTRATION REMINDER

If you have not yet registered for belt testing, please make sure to do so no later than the day you complete your make-up test.

ATTENTION CMAC FAMILY – TESTING CANCELLED

Due to the severe weather conditions expected in the Athens area, we have made the decision to cancel today's belt testing, Saturday, October 10th.

With strong winds expected to peak during our scheduled testing time and potentially hazardous driving conditions, the safety of our students, families, and instructors remains our top priority.

We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding as we waited for the most up-to-date forecast before making this decision.

Information regarding rescheduling and make-up testing opportunities will be announced soon.

Attention CMAC Family,

As of right now, belt testing is still scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, October 10th, at 9:30 AM.

We are closely monitoring the severe weather expected in our area. Unfortunately, we have received conflicting forecasts from different weather services, making it difficult to determine exactly when and how severely the weather may impact Athens.

The safety of our students, families, and instructors is always our number one priority. With that in mind, we have decided to hold off on making a final decision until tomorrow morning, when we hope to have a clearer picture of the weather conditions.

We will make a final announcement by 9:00 AM tomorrow morning confirming whether testing will proceed as scheduled or be canceled due to the weather. This announcement will be posted on our CMAC Family page, and a message will also be sent directly to our families.

We understand that this uncertainty may be inconvenient, and we sincerely appreciate your patience, understanding, and flexibility as we work to make the safest decision for everyone.

Please keep an eye out for our update tomorrow morning, and remember that your safety comes first. If conditions in your area are unsafe for travel, please use your best judgment.

Our 4:30 PM Mixed Taekwondo class will be held as scheduled. However, there will be no 5:00 PM BJJ or 6:00 PM Muay Thai class tonight.
