Duluth Middle School Band

This week was full of end of the year reflection and celebrations for our band classes! We loved getting to spend time with our favorite people beyond making music. Congratulations to all of our band students on a fantastic school year! It was one of our favorite years and we are already so excited for next year 💜🥰

Congratulations to Khang, Stephen, Luna, Yaridny, and Anna on an incredible weekend with the Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony Young Artists Program! 🎶✨

They represented our school and program so well alongside 110 other young musicians from across the metro Atlanta area. In just about 4 hours of rehearsal, they learned four pieces and rose to the challenge with focus and musicianship beyond their years.

Even more special, they performed two works by composer-in-residence Michael Markowski, who worked directly with the students throughout the weekend. What an amazing experience! .nyc

It’s inspiring to see our students engage with music at this level at such a young age. We are so proud of each of them and can’t wait to see all they continue to accomplish on their musical journey! 🐾💜🎶

🪊🎶 Huge congratulations to Ryan Santiago, who made history as Duluth Middle School’s very first participant in the Georgia Music Educators Association District 13 Jazz Honor Band! 🎉

Ryan is primarily a euphonium player, but picked up the trombone and put in the work practicing at home to prepare for this incredible opportunity. 🔥 He learned jazz scales, stepped into a brand new style of music, and even performed an improvised solo at yesterday’s concert! ✨

We are so proud of Ryan for his hard work, courage, and willingness to challenge himself. He represented Duluth Middle School so well, and we cannot wait to see all the amazing things he continues to accomplish with the band program at Duluth High School! 🐾💜🎶

🎶 Congratulations to our 8 amazing 6th grade students who proudly represented Duluth Middle School at the Georgia Music Educators Association District 13 First Year Honor Band Clinic! 🎉

These students performed alongside 6th grade band musicians from across Gwinnett County after being nominated by their band directors, and had the opportunity to learn from two outstanding guest conductors. 👏🎺

Even more impressive, they were given brand new music they had never seen before and prepared it for a full concert in just about 3 hours! 🤯 That is no small feat, and it speaks to their talent, focus, and hard work.

We are incredibly proud of each of these students for representing DMS so well and for rising to the challenge. Way to go, Wildcats! 🐾💜🎶

So proud of our students who represented at the GMEA District 13 Honor Band! 🎶

Our advanced band students began preparing for this rigorous and highly competitive audition back in August. Out of more than 1,000 students who auditioned, these musicians were selected among the top 200 middle school performers in the district.

Over two days, they worked with guest conductors Tyler Grant and Dr. Matt Koperniak, preparing 4–5 pieces of brand-new music. We are incredibly proud of their hard work, dedication, and musicianship. 💜🐾

Last week, our 6th grade band students got to experience a live full orchestra performance! The full orchestra includes band instruments like flute, trumpet, percussion and more. We are so grateful to the for providing these enrichment opportunities for young student musicians! 💜🎵

We had the best time at our annual Donation Celebration! DMS music students played board games, video games, watched movies, and sang karaoke to celebrate a successful fundraiser that will help us provide opportunities for them in our programs. We are so grateful for our community’s support and can’t wait for all the great things coming this semester!

So proud of our students who represented at the University of Georgia’s Middle School Honor Band Festival alongside 1,200 of the best middle school band students in the Southeast. In just seven hours, they worked hard to prepare and perform a full concert. What an incredible experience and accomplishment! Congratulations to these amazing musicians! 💜🫶🏽🥹
