We are sooo proud of our very own Mrs. Yahya!!

🌟 Exciting News! 🌟

We are thrilled to announce that Kimberly Yahya, a dedicated and passionate fourth-grade mathematics teacher at Athens Elementary School, is one of the five finalists for the West Virginia Teacher of the Year!

With 15 years of experience, Ms. Yahya is not just an educator but a leader and inspiration. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with an endorsement in general science for grades 5-9 and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Concord University.

Ms. Yahya wears many hats:
✨ Reading Bee Coach
✨ Leadership Team Member
✨ Social Committee Chair
✨ County Math Trainer
✨ Mercer County Representative in the West Virginia Leaders of Numeracy Network

Her innovative lessons incorporate the Mathematical Habits of Mind, tailored to meet her students' unique needs. In a classroom filled with laughter, singing, and dancing, she creates an environment where students thrive and build bonds that last a lifetime.

Mrs. Poe's class decided to kick start their summer vacation a little early and headed to the beach. They had a great time tie dying t-shirts, playing beach games, fishing, and digging for buried treasure. Hello summer!!🌞🏖️

Fifth Graders recently learned about our wonderful state. Each child created an industry to provide services for a region. We had many proposed industries such as: Flight Tours of Spruce K**b which entails drop offs for avid hikers, Sparkly Safe which sells raft decor, Ride N Shop Rental which is a whitewater rafting rental business at Fayetteville. Mothman Tours at Point Pleasant begins at the old bridge and ends at the Mothman Statue will surely be a hit! Especially with a Mothman Gift Shop which will end the tour. We must not forget zip lines and quaint hotels at our New River Gorge Bridge! Our students at Athens are definitely our next entrepreneurs! 💙💛
