Our Lady Wildcats are ready to take the court!

We are so proud to announce our 2026–2027 OAES Volleyball Team! These girls showed up, worked hard, and earned their spot, and we can't wait to see what this team accomplishes together.

Our game schedule is coming soon, but for now, let's celebrate these incredible Lady Wildcats and wish them an amazing season!

Volleyball tryouts are almost here, and we're looking for the next Lady Wildcats to join the team!

**Tryouts:** Tuesday, August 11 & Wednesday, August 12
**Time:** 3:00–4:30 PM

Students **must be registered for ASP** prior to tryouts.

Our Lady Wildcats kick off their season the week of **August 31**, and we can't wait to see who takes the court this year. If you're ready to work hard, grow as a teammate, and represent Oglethorpe with pride, we'll see you at tryouts!

We’re back, Wildcats!

There is nothing quite like the excitement of the first day of school. Seeing smiling faces walk through our doors, hearing friends reconnect, and watching classrooms come to life again is the best way to kick off a new year.

We’ve been counting down the days, and we’re so happy to have our Wildcats back where they belong. We can’t wait to learn, laugh, grow, and make memories together.

Here’s to an incredible school year. Let’s make it the best one yet! Change starts with ME!

Hi, my name is Brianna Griffith, and this is my third year serving as a paraprofessional. I am dedicated to supporting students as they learn, grow, and reach their full potential. I have a true passion for working with children and enjoy building meaningful relationships that create confidence, curiosity, and success. Beyond the classroom, I have also served as a coach, where I have had the opportunity to develop young athletes by promoting teamwork, discipline, and a positive attitude. 🐾 Every great school is made even stronger by the people who serve it. Today we're proud to introduce another member of our growing Wildcat family — Dr. Amy Scarborough, our new 2nd grade teacher.

She had this to say about her life and educational journey...

Hi I am Dr. Amy Scarborough and I am excited to be joining Oglethorpe Elementary as a 2nd grade ELA teacher this year. I previously taught Lower Elementary, Art, and Reading Intervention on the Lowcountry coast in Beaufort, South Carolina. Before teaching K-12, I was a professor living in Savannah and Oregon. After being away from Athens for 20 years, my husband and I are enjoying being back and introducing our two daughters to the wonderful people and nuances that make Athens so special. I enjoy traveling, listening and playing music, creating art, exploring nature, reading, and spending time with my family and friends.

Hello! My name is Miah Mosley, and I am excited to join the school family as a Special Education Paraprofessional. I am currently studying Psychology and have a passion for working with children and supporting students with different learning needs.

I believe every child deserves patience, encouragement, and someone who believes in their potential. I am looking forward to building relationships with my students, families, and staff while being a positive part of the school community.

The countdown to the first day of school is on, and that means it's time to meet the incredible people who will be making a difference in the lives of our Wildcats this year!

Today's Wildcat Spotlight shines on Abigail Blackburn, who joins us as a paraprofessional.

She shared the following with us: I just got married in June to my wonderful husband, Josh Blackburn. I have 5 years of experience in the special education department in public schools. Kids have always been a huge part of my life, whether at school, at work, at church, at home, babysitting, or in any volunteer opportunity. I studied Early Childhood Care and Education at Chattahoochee Technical College and Primary Education at Kennesaw State University. I'm very excited to join the Wildcat family!

As we prepare to launch an exciting 2026–2027 school year, we're thrilled to introduce the newest members of the Oglethorpe Avenue Elementary School family! Throughout the next few days, we'll be spotlighting the talented educators and staff who are joining our team. We can't wait for you to get to know them!

Today, we're excited to introduce Antanise Derricotte, our new Kindergarten Teacher.

Antanise Derricotte is a passionate individual who loves reading, crocheting, and painting. She enjoys spending quality time with her family, cherishing those special moments together. A proud graduate of Grand Canyon University, she is currently pursuing her master's degree, demonstrating her dedication to personal growth and learning. Her creativity and commitment make her truly inspiring.
