🚨 The New World screwworm, a flesh-eating insect that lays eggs in open wounds or body cavities of warm-blooded animals, is back in the U.S. for the first time in decades.

Professor of Entomology and UGA Extension Veterinary Entomologist Nancy Hinkle is answering the public's pressing questions about what the screwworm is and whether we should be worried about its return.

🌟 Entomology doctoral student Piper Cole has been named a 2026 Wormsloe Fellow!

One of only two students inducted into this year's cohort, Cole will explore the interactions of beetles and honeybees with trees at the Center for Research and Education at Wormsloe on the Isle of Hope in Savannah, Georgia.
