On December 15, we were visited by the first river otter in the hatchery in several years. It managed to kill one trophy trout, but with some quick and willing action from these students, we managed to move the trout from our larger pond to the smaller one, where we fixed up a temporary lid using livestock panels. Our next step is to raise funds to design and purchase proper otter-proof cage lids for our brand new concrete ponds, which were completed this past summer through an ODFW Restoration and Enhancment grant.
