Congrats to our student (10th grader at Bronx Science) for this excellent score on the PSAT! A high PSAT score as a sophomore is a great achievement, indicating strong potential for the National Merit Scholarship in 11th grade and a high score on the SAT (the one that gets submitted to colleges for admission).

Key Benchmarks:
Excellent (Top 1%): 1430–1520.
Great (Top 10%): 1210–1270.
Good (Top 25%): 1030–1210.

Our next step is to push this score to the 1500+ range in order to get closer to that goal of having a shot at acceptance to ivy league and other selective colleges. Let's go!

Last minute test-taking tips for those taking the ELA State Test (April 14-24)...

* Read the passage introduction if there is one. That background information will make the passage easier to understand.

* Annotate important details such as those that relate to the main idea or theme of the passage. For literary passages, it is also helpful to pay attention to how the main character changes as a result of an event or conflict .

* Use Process of Elimination (POE). To spot wrong answers, look for the following: extreme language which is frequently too absolute to be correct, an inaccurate detail that is stated in the passage but irrelevant to the question and reverse causality which are statements that reverse the cause and effect relationship mentioned in the text.

Good luck!!!

This year's SHSAT has become even more challenging with the shift to the computer-adaptive test (CAT) format. Because it is designed to adapt to a student's ongoing performance, the student has to answer each question in order to advance to the next one. So in effect, it will no longer allow students to go back and forth to review their answers (except for those in the passage-based question sets in the ELA section). In order to get a higher score, your child will need additional skills that focus on accuracy on top of having to master foundational content. Call or text us at 917-445-9192 to learn more.

High school admissions results are out! To all eight graders, you are now about to begin the exciting transition from middle school to high school. As you look ahead to the next phase of your life, mentally prepare yourself to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. And don't forget to have fun along the way. But first, let's celebrate!

This year's SHSAT will transition to the new computer-adaptive test (CAT) which will tailor the questions that students receive based on their ongoing performance. The algorithm selects the next question based on the examinee’s previous answers. If a question is answered correctly, the difficulty increases; if missed, the next item is easier. Hence, every question must be answered to proceed to the next one which means students don't get to skip hard questions and won't be able to go back and review their answers.
