Join us for an evening of original music with Astoria’s own Michael Hicks on Wednesday, July 15 and Saturday, July 18 at 7:30 PM.
Michael has been part of the Art House family from the very beginning. Many of you know him as the accompanist behind countless auditions, our annual Faculty Showcase, and his unforgettable performance of Piano Man at this year’s Perform-a-Thon.
Last summer, Michael stepped into the spotlight as a singer-songwriter with two sold-out concerts (in Manhattan 🙄). Now he’s back (in Astoria 🎉) with fan favorites, brand-new songs, and the same wit, warmth, and musicianship that make him one of our community’s most beloved artists.
And yes—he may just be one of the nicest people on Earth.
Expect songs about life, dish racks, and everything in between—plus piano, guitar, accordion, and plenty of stories along the way!

Yesterday, we hosted our annual Performing Arts High School Information Session—one of our favorite free community events that we’ve proudly offered for the past three years.
We were thrilled to welcome our biggest turnout yet as families gathered to learn more about the audition process, school options, and what life is really like at performing arts high schools.
A special thank you to our incredible student panelists—Emma, Milena, Vera, and Violet—for generously sharing their experiences, insights, and advice with the next generation of aspiring artists. Hearing firsthand about their audition journeys and school experiences was invaluable.
We are also so grateful to Cara for organizing and leading the session, and to Laura for sharing her expertise as an educator who has helped so many students successfully navigate the performing arts high school admissions process over the years.
Here’s to the future Class of performing arts students—we can’t wait to see where your journey takes you! ✨

You can even spot the title of our program peeking out: Come Together…which still feels like the perfect message.
Art House will be closed Saturday, May 23 and Monday, May 25 in honor of Memorial Day, but we’ll be out celebrating community, music, and art at the Broadway Memorial Day Street Fair this weekend.
See you there!

Today we’re celebrating one of our original Art House kids, Katelynn Kennedy Staggs! 💚💚💚
Katelynn started with us around the age of 10, taking voice and guitar lessons with Jessy Tomsko and acting classes with Amanda Flynn — we’re going waaaay back! One of the photos here is from one of her very first Art House recitals back in 2014, and seeing how far she’s come since then is pretty incredible.
From those early days at Art House, it was clear she had something special.
She went on to audition for and be accepted into the prestigious Musical Theatre middle school program at PPAS, later continuing her studies in the Drama program at PPAS High School. Along the way, Katelynn remained an important part of the Art House family — working as a camp counselor and most recently serving as stage manager for our very first Next Act production.
And now… somehow… she’s graduating college (and yes, this officially makes us feel old 😭).
Katelynn has earned her BFA in Acting with a minor in Theater for Social Justice from the Sands College of Performing Arts at Pace University — a program ranked 5th nationally by Playbill for the most represented colleges on Broadway.
We are so incredibly proud of the artist, leader, and human being she has become. Watching our students grow from kids into working artists and theater professionals is one of the greatest joys of what we do.
Congratulations, Katelynn — we can’t wait to see what comes next! 🎭✨
