It matters.
What doesn't matter is the title behind your name, the balance of your bank account, how many hours you spent at work, how clean your house is, the make of your car, where you vacationed, who your parents are, and a lot of other stuff.
What does matter is how you treat people, how much you offer others, your attitude at work, that your house feels like a home, that your car is safe to drive, that you invest in and appreciate those that love you, how you support your parents, and a lot of other stuff.
This photo was taken in Mrs. Clayton's 1st grade class, at Lewis & Clark elementary school, in 1973 as a young high school student, Student Taught my 1st grade class.
Her mom was our Class Aid, and we loved her. One day Mrs. Leonhardt introduced us to her daughter Julie, and we were told that she was going to be helping in our class for awhile. I don't remember what she read, what she explained, or what she taught, but I remember how she made me feel.
That's me on the left looking perplexed, but Miss Julie made our class a safe place to raise your hand. She allowed us to ask and answer questions, and if we weren't correct then she would guide us to finding the answer.
50-years later, I remember how her support made me feel--it matters--I mattered.
Thank you for sending me this sweet photo, Julie!
