Our Dragon family will sadly enter this new year one member short, as Oliviah Hall's battle with brain cancer has ended. I only had the chance to see her in person once, she came to the Junior high and talked to the entire student body about her socks drive for the kids at the hospital, and in 5 minutes she stole our hearts. It is not easy to stand in front of just a classroom of tweens, but she showed not a bit of fear, and completely owned the "stage" in front of 450 12-14 year olds, dancing, telling jokes, and inviting us all to her birthday party. I personally grieve for all who knew her well, and I am sad for myself and her other future teachers that have been robbed of having her in their classes, while being soothed by the knowledge her pain is over.
As for that battle with cancer, Liv I must say, kicked its ass! She didn't let it change her, or rob her of her spirit, and got everything she could out of her decade on this Earth.
My thoughts today when seeing the paper went to probably the biggest larger than life showman ever, Freddie Mercury. Brian May, wrote, The Show Must Go On for him, knowing his time was short and unsure if he could even deliver the vocals needed to perform it. And just like Oliviah in the videos I've seen singing, he crushed it.
"My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies
Fairy tales of yesterday will grow but never die
I can fly my friends
The show must go on, yeah
The show must go on
I'll face it with a grin
I'm never giving in
On with the show"
Good Night sweet little girl, may your spirit continue to lift us up.
