The Ashland County Health Department has confirmed the county's first case of measles.
Measles is a highly contagious viral illness that spreads through the air when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or breathes. Symptoms may include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a characteristic rash.
At this time, our staff is working closely with healthcare providers and public health partners to identify any potential exposures and notify individuals who may be affected.
What residents should do:
✅ Review your vaccination records and ensure you and your family members are up to date on the MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccine.
✅ Monitor for symptoms if you believe you may have been exposed.
✅ Contact your healthcare provider before arriving if you develop symptoms.
✅ Follow updates from trusted public health and healthcare sources.
For most individuals, vaccination provides strong protection against measles and remains the best way to prevent infection and limit community spread.
The Health Department will provide additional information as it becomes available.
