This summer, our nursing students stepped beyond the classroom and into the heart of rural healthcare during the June 2026 NUIP 375 Rural Health Immersion Experience in Emporia, Virginia. 💙🩺

Guided by Nursing Director Dr. Cindy Rubenstein and Professor Sarah Scoles, students partnered with local organizations to better understand the unique healthcare needs of rural communities. They educated families on nutrition and healthy beverage choices at the Virginia Cooperative Extension Office, observed patient care at Dr. Ackerman’s Family Practice, and volunteered at the Remote Area Medical (RAM) Clinic, helping provide free medical, dental, and vision services to uninsured and underserved individuals.

Through hands-on learning, community engagement, and compassionate service, our future nurses gained valuable insight into the importance of accessible, patient-centered care—making a meaningful impact while growing as healthcare professionals.

From classrooms to clinicals, the BSN Class of 2026 has shown dedication every step of the way 🩺🎓

This year’s Pinning Ceremony celebrated not only achievement, but the passion and purpose that define nursing. Congratulations to Audrey Ellenberger ’26, senior class speaker and recipient of the VNA Future Nurse Leader Award, and thank you to Dr. Chris Turner for inspiring students as this year’s faculty speaker.

Your future patients are lucky to have you 💙

Our last lovely nursing ambassador is Kailey Slater ‘26.

“The RMC nursing program has provided more than just an education. It has given me strength and courage to dedicate my career to the art of nursing. Through every lesson, clinical, and challenge, I’ve been shaped into not only a more knowledgeable nurse, but a more compassionate one. This program has taught me to care for patients as a whole- their physical needs, emotional struggles, spiritual concerns, and personal stories. Because of this experience, I am leaving not only prepared with skills and confidence, but with a deeper understanding of what it truly means to serve with empathy, integrity, and heart.”
