The Rogue Valley Growers and Crafters Market is committed that no one should face food insecurity during the shutdown. We have several supports in place to help SNAP recipients but have heard from many community members that they have been affected by the changes to SNAP eligibility and are not able to access SNAP resources. To bridge the gap we are starting a Pop Up Food Pantry at all of our markets!
We will set up tables and shelves and welcome donations from the community in the form of goods purchased from our vendors or shelf stable and non perishable goods. This is accessible to all no questions asked. All remaining perishables at the end of the market day will be donated to a local food pantry or soup kitchen and non perishables will be stored and placed out the following week.
Here are some most needed food pantry items:
· Peanut/Almond Butter
· Canned meats such as tuna, chicken and salmon
· Shelf stable milks
· Cooking oil
· Cereals and Flours (whole grains, low sugar preferred)
· Rice/Grains/Beans/Lentils (canned or dried)
· Mac and cheese (whole grain preferred)
· Soups, stews or chili (sodium 480 mg or less preferred)
· Pasta (whole wheat preferred) and canned tomatoes or sauce (no salt added preferred)
Please see our pinned post on our page about how we are helping to bridge the gap for SNAP recipients with $40 of market credit/day regardless of benefits balance.
We are honored to be working with our community to face these challenges head on, with care, resourcefulness and compassion. Thank you!
