Catholic Campus Ministry, The Newman Community at AU

Sacrament. Social. Service. Spiritual Formation.

Catholic Campus Ministry at AU seeks to provide a Catholic university experience for students, faculty, and staff on campus. Through the sacraments, social gatherings, and service to others, the Newman Community fosters a culture in which people encounter Jesus Christ
and accompany one another on the journey of faith and life. Helping each other discover and develop into the persons God created us to be, we are, as Pope Francis stated, “missionary disciples accompanying missionary disciples!”

A culture of Missionary Discipleship is one of…
Conversion: changing lives
Community: loving people
Multiplication: producing disciples

Last Night at Newman Night, Fr. Jim wrapped up our 3-week series on Seen, Known, and Loved. He spoke about how we love what is good, and that seeing, knowing, and loving is the order that love occurs. He also spoke about how love creates union, mutual indwelling, ecstasy, zeal, shaping of the lover, and action. Fr. Jim wrapped up his talk by telling us a little bit about his story. We finished off the night with our student campus minister, Sarah Bell, giving a witness on how she sees Christ’s love in the people around her every day.

The week of May 16-22, twelve students and two staff from AU partnered w/ Praying Pelican Missions to help with the Hurricane Helene recovery efforts in Lake Lure & Chimney Rock, North Carolina. Below are some photos from an amazing week of service and fellowship.

St. Paul wrote, “The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love” (Galatians 5:6). We pray our small acts of charity will bless the people we served. Their perseverance in the midst of great suffering certainly increased our faith!

Thank you to all who offered prayers and support for our mission. Please keep the people of Western Carolina in your prayers as they continue to rebuild their lives!
