EMTAS Inc. Education is key to better patient care and a safe working environment. As one of the leaders in pre-hospital EMT training, EMTAS stands out among all others.

Established in early 2000, our programs have trained hundreds of people in emergency medical services & techniques. Our graduates have obtained jobs in the Tri-State area in all phases of Pre-hospital Emergency Care with the confidence and knowledge of their skills and abilities. All of our course instructors are trained and certified Emergency Medical Technicians or higher, who have many hours of

real job experience. They bring with them not only the knowledge found in the textbooks, but the experience of real life situations. The EMT-Basic-Original Training Course is given on an ongoing basis throughout the year. The requirements for courses vary as well as the required schedule. Upon graduation, our students are highly qualified for employment in the pre-hospital profession and are highly sought after by employers. EMTAS also offers EMT Training Refresher Courses, with classes beginning on a regular basis. These classes also offer the most up to date information available. Our AED Training Program provides hands on skills necessary for emergency response during all phases of respiratory and cardiac emergencies. All Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and CPR training courses are also taught by certified EMT’s and Paramedics who have many years of real hands on experience as well as a complete knowledge of the most up to date guidelines and techniques. Infant and Child CPR classes are also available. ACLS, PALS, and PEPP training is also available. These courses are designed to train people to deal with everyday emergencies and should be taken by people entrusted with the care of others. Some of our programs can be tailored to meet your group or organizations specific needs.

Past EMT Students and Instructors,
Richard Lee VanHoose was involved in a severe accident Friday night around 7 PM and is now in a critical condition. As a highly respected retired Vietnam veteran medic, Richard served three tours, worked in special forces, and later served a tour in Afghanistan in the medevac unit as an E8 First Sergeant. Throughout his life, he has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to serving others. His notable service record includes working with ABG Ambulance as an EMT, serving with the Boyd County Police Department, retiring from the postal service, operating EMTAS to educate numerous EMS providers, and currently serving as the Boyd County Constable for District 3. He has dedicated his life to protecting and giving back to others, and now it's our turn to support him. Richard is receiving treatment in the Burn ICU at Cabell Huntington. Please keep him, our family, and his many friends in your thoughts and prayers.

Rowan County EMS is currently hiring for two full-time paramedic positions.

Individual needed to administer advanced life support care to sick and injured persons in the ambulatory setting as authorized and directed by the EMS Director. Duties include: providing advanced and basic life support to ill or injured patients; assessing nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed or need for additional assistance; restoring and stabilizing heart rhythm on pulseless, non-breathing patients; monitoring cardiac patients; initiating intravenous fluids to administer medications or replace fluids; performing endotracheal intubation to open airways and ventilate patients in accordance with departmental medical protocols; administering injections of medications; administering initial treatment at emergency scene and takes and records patient’s vital signs.

Position requires: High school diploma or GED; Kentucky Paramedic License; driver’s license; healthcare CPR card and ACLS. Must be 21 years old.

Rowan County EMS is the sole EMS provider in Rowan County, KY, which consists of 286 square miles and a population of nearly 25,000. Operating out of a new station, with a second new station under construction, Rowan County EMS carries 6 ambulances on the license and responds to over 5,000 requests for service annually.

This is the DEATH MASK of a young woman who drowned in the River Seine in the 1880's. As was customary in those days, her co**se was put on display in the Paris mortuary, in the hope that someone might recognize her and claim her body. The pathologist on duty became entranced by the girl with the enigmatic half-smile, and so he commissioned a plaster cast made of her face. This mask was replicated many times over. She became known as "L'Inconnue de la Seine,” or “The Unknown Woman of the Seine.” In 1955, a toy maker named Asmund Laerdal created what we now know as the CPR doll. Asmund wanted his mannequin to have a natural appearance. Remembering a mask on the wall of his grandparents' house many years earlier, he decided that the L'Inconnue de la Seine would become the face of Resusci Anne. So you see, this anonymous woman who drowned in the 19th century is responsible for saving many, many lives the world over. It is said that she has the most kissed face of all time. I hope you enjoyed this little tale!
