In an atmosphere of relaxed learning, encouragement and fun, players explore the wonder of music. Tish McFadden is a private music teacher in Ashland, Oregon who specializes in bringing the joy of making music to all ages. She offers lessons to beginners on guitar, ukulele, piano and flute. Tish founded Rum Tum School of Music in 1988 and finds music a wonderful and rewarding vehicle for developin

g a person’s self-esteem, creativity, and confidence. Around the year she brings families and friends together through song and rhythm, helping students gain skills and reach new goals. The pleasure, the growth, the challenge, the commitment and the sharing of music --- all bring us deeper into ourselves and fosters a harmony in the world that I believe makes it a better place. Making music helps children, teens, and adults believe in themselves. In teaching, a huge reward is seeing the unimagined become possible – hearing young voices open up, ears sharpen, and small hands move with intention on piano keys, flute keys, and guitar and ukulele strings. No other activity is better suited to human beings than the pursuit of music for experiencing our whole selves at work and play. At any age, the direct benefits of music to brain function are vast and well documented. But physiology aside, what matters is the incredible enjoyment and personal growth it brings to player and listener alike! Music takes us to many new places in very real ways while giving us a voice beyond our own to communicate a variety of feelings. Daily I witness celebratory moments with my students. Tish wants to bring music making into your own two hands, following her own “Learn it, Know it, Play it, Show it” approach at Ukulele Getaway this July. Tish has been singing and writing original songs for Ashland’s elementary-age classrooms since 1991. Songs from her recordings have been nationally featured on public radio's "Musical Enchanter Radio Theater" and included on the CD “Wild Child”, released in 2011 on Big Round Records. Tish also teaches ukulele classes at Willow Wind Community Learning Center in Ashland. Many of her students perform in downtown Ashland and in Lithia Park for public enjoyment. In addition to her teaching, Tish performs traditional Celtic music on flute, with her harpist partner Kathleen Page and writes manuscripts for children’s picture books. Upcoming projects include releasing three new CDs of original music, launching her websites, and publishing children’s books based on her song themes.

Song of the Redwing is a charming picture book for children. It includes beautiful watercolor illustrations. The text is a beautiful, lyrical poem. This book teaches the reader about the fauna and flora of the marsh while creating beautiful pictures to inform young mind's about the world's realities.

I love this book! It is so beautiful and scientifically accurate. I believe that children's books should not dumb down language, nor should they have cartoonish illustrations. Literature is how children learn about the world. When children read this book when they are little, they will have accurate mental pictures of marsh animals, water, plants for when they read chapter books when they are older.

Will you adopt this title for a course, curriculum, or classroom? Yes!

Hey peeps! We just got these wonderful fractional sized student classicals in from Kremona. Great bang for the buck, and built in Bulgaria! Come on in and take them for a spin. Great for kids! These are REAL guitars with solid cedar tops and African mahogany backs and sides. :-)

The power, the community, the heart ... of music. The PS22 Chorus, directed by Gregg Breinberg, is the Webby Award-winning public elementary school chorus from PS 22 in Graniteville, Staten Island, New York City. It is composed of 60-70 fifth-graders. PS 22 is the largest elementary school in Staten Island. PS22 Chorus has performed with a multitude of musical acts (e.g. Katy Perry, O.A.R., Carrie Underwood, Portugal the Man, and Fifth Harmony) and has had celebrated appearances on numerous national and international broadcasts throughout the years (including the widely publicized performance of "Over The Rainbow" that closed the 83rd Academy Awards after its videos had gained worldwide attention within the popular video-sharing site YouTube. To date, the chorus's YouTube videos have been watched more than 100 million times.

The generosity of our local musicians is boundless! Thank you Rhonda Loftis for your amazing donations of instruments, amp, mic stands, a hot red electric guitar, a stunning cajon, and awesome percussion! Thank you Leah Schindler for donating your very first ukulele. I have great memories of this one! These are on their way to Portland to be put in the hands of immigrant and refugee kids who are ripe to tell their stories through sound and song.
